PRESERVATION OF THE SERRA VERMELHA
NETWORK APPEALS FOR THE PRESERVATION
OF THE SERRA VERMELHA

ATLANTIC FOREST NGO NETWORK
The Serra Vermelha, which shelters rich biodiversity and a transition zone of the Atlantic Forest biome with the Caatinga (semi-arid scrub forest) and the Cerrado (Savanna), is seriously threatened.
Located in a huge plateau that is completely preserved in southern Piauí remains the last Brazilian semi-arid forest.
In order to rally society for the preservation of this area, the RMA (Atlantic Forest NGO Network), is running a campaign for the creation of the Serra Vermelha National Park and the immediate suspension of the Energia Verde project that is promoting deforestation in the region.
This project, which was authorized by a regional IBAMA office, intends to transform 78 thousand hectares of native forest into vegetal coal.
The authorization ceded to the project is illegal upon various aspects. Send letters, e-mails or a fax to the Minister of the Environment and to the President of IBAMA.
